COMPANY HISTORY

Smith & Company, Inc. (SCI) was founded in South Florida in 1983 by Stephen W. Smith. As a native to South Florida, he recognized a need for quality, professional site development and highway construction to support the massive development taking place throughout the state. The SCI venture began with just two pieces of machinery and a solid commitment to provide the most professional land engineering and infrastructure services available in the industry.

In 1983 SCI partnered with the Arvida Corporation to develop over 50% of what is now known as the City of Weston, located in West Broward County. This idea was conceived on 10,000 acres of the everglades and included two golf courses, miles of roadway, curbing, clearing for 82,500,000 cubic yards of lake excavation, muck removal and embankment. This was a 19-year project, totaling over $375,000,000.00

From the Mid 90s to the early 2000’s SCI helped build what is now known as Pembroke Falls. Where 1500 acres of swamp land was transformed into an upscale community of over 2085 private residencies, two apartment complexes, two schools and numerous commercial establishments. Over 15,000,000 cubic yards of material were excavated to form the foundation of this $85,000,000 site development project. All earthwork, roadways, concrete, and underground utilities were done by SCI forces.

In 1999 SCI began work with the Florida Department of Transportation to take on a 3-mile, $48,000,000 replacement project on I-4. This project consisted of replacement of two bridges, relocation, and replacement of both east and west bound lanes with concrete pavement, cubing, barrier walls, water main replacement and storm drainage. SCI completed this project on an accelerated schedule of just over 14 months.

From 2015 to 2017 SCI began work on the I-75 express lanes in Pembroke Pines, a project totaling over $17,800,000.00. In 2018 to 2020 SCI developed 3 large community projects in Pasco County, Mirada – $9,800,000.00, Mirada Active Adult – $10,100,000.00 and Silverado – $7,600,000.00 totaling over $24,500,000.00.

In 2021 SCI developed several road projects in Traditions Legacy Park in the city of Port St. Lucie totaling over $6,800,000.00 over 2 years.

In 2022 SCI started work on a Distribution Warehouse in Traditions, Port St. Lucie. This project totaled $3,200,000.00 and was finished in less than one year.

In 2023 SCI started work on the Cheney Brothers Site Distribution Center in Traditions, Port St. Lucie, this project was finished within 14 months and valued at $7,600,000.00. At the same time SCI also completed the West Jensen Commercial site totaling over $3,300,000.00 and the Fresh Market project in Tradition, Port St. Lucie, valued at over $2,225,000.00.

In 2024 SCI started the renovations of the Dietary Center located at the HCA – JFK Hospital in Atlantis Florida, valued over $2,300,000.00.
